Born in 1967 in Piracicaba - Sao Paulo, Brazil, Marcelo Gimenes has been working with art and design from his early twenties. After his art studies Gimenes traveled to Lisbon, Portugal where he lived and worked for five years. Attracted by the "no non-sense" mentality of the dutch he moved to Rotterdam where he studied at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy.

The years that followed where characterized by his passion for fabrics and its use. Gimenes worked with the most trend-setting companies in Europe as art-director of a Dutch Press Center for Design where he was responsible for trend forecasting for the Dutch market, working closely with the international press and design manufactures all over the world.

Fabrics have always been part of his life and his work stands out for its abstract use of fabrics as a mataphore for allusive three-dimensional landscapes where colour, light and texture play perfectly together.
